Amphibians of every life stage are vulnerable to ranaviruses, which endure within multiple host types. While the virus is prevalent across several Central and South American countries, the presence of the Ranavirus (Rv) genus in Colombia is currently unconfirmed. To address the knowledge deficit, we conducted a survey of Rv in 60 frog species (including one invasive species) in Colombia. We further investigated the presence of a co-infection with Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) in a portion of the examined subjects. Liver tissue samples, vouchered, were gathered from 274 RVs, from 2014 to 2019, encompassing 41 localities, distributed throughout habitats, starting from lowlands and ascending to mountaintop paramos. From 8 locations, 14 specimens representing 6 species, including 5 native frogs (Osornophryne, Pristimantis, Leptodactylus) and the invasive Rana catesbeiana, were found positive for Rv by qPCR and end-point PCR analyses. A 2018 *R. catesbeiana* specimen demonstrated a co-infection of Bd and Rv, representing one among the 7 individuals diagnosed with Bd from a total of 140 tested. The discovery of ranavirus in Colombia, detailed in this first report, serves as a critical warning about the emerging threat to amphibian populations in the country. Preliminary data suggests potential pathways and timing of Rv's spread, enhancing our knowledge of its global distribution.

This report unveils a unique case of nephrolithiasis within a >2-year-old, senescent female Pacific octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) maintained in a public aquarium setting. The clinical picture presented with generalized external pallor, a progressive loss of appetite eventually reaching anorexia, lethargy, and a slow-healing mantle abrasion that persisted for an entire year. A native species within numerous European ecosystems, the river mussel Unio crassus, scientifically designated as Philipsson, 1788, possesses a thick shell, and its population size is shrinking. The impact of parasite communities on the health status of this particular species presents a significant knowledge gap. This study investigated the parasite populations of 30 U. crassus specimens from the Our and Sauer Rivers in Luxembourg, employing morphological and, in selected cases, molecular genetic methods. Selected parameters (total length, visceral weight, shell lesions, gonadal stage) exhibited correlations with the findings. Comparative analysis of shell length, visceral weight, sex ratio, gonadal scoring, shell injuries, and the occurrence of glochidia revealed no distinction between the two populations. Despite the similarity in prevalence and infestation levels of Trichodina sp., Conchophthirus sp., and freshwater mite larvae between both populations, the Sauer River displayed significantly higher infestation levels of mite eggs, nymphs, and adults. The Sauer River was the sole location where Rhipidocotyle campanula and European bitterling Rhodeus amarus larvae were observed. R. campanula's attack on the gonads, culminating in their destruction, and the mites' simultaneous tissue damage were highlighted in the histopathology report. Of the selected parameters, a positive correlation linked R. amarus abundance to total length, whereas a negative correlation was established between R. amarus occurrence and gonadal stage. A double count of hermaphrodite mussels was observed in the Sauer River.

To study mosquito flight behavior in reaction to volatile pyrethroid transfluthrin (TF) chemical gradients, we utilize an innovative air-dilution chamber. Carbon dioxide (CO2) was homogeneously delivered and measured across a chamber using air dilution to simulate a larger environment of stable concentration gradients, reaching a target 5 inlet/outlet CO2 ratio with an outlet velocity of 0.17 m/s. Aedes (Ae.) aegypti (Linnaeus, 1762, Diptera Culicidae) females were exposed to a combination of volatilized TF, heat, carbon dioxide, and Biogents-Sweetscent host emanations. Using tandem solvent extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SE-GC-MS), air samples from TF emanations were measured for TF concentration. The limit of detection (LOD) was determined to be 2 parts-per-trillion (ppt) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 5 parts-per-trillion (ppt). The spatial repellent TF's emanations, evenly mixed into the air, exhibited a concentration at least twice that of the 5 CO2 gradient, using the same air flow within the chamber. The mosquitoes encountered airborne TF concentrations varying from 1 to 170 ppt. Filmed mosquito behavior during exposure to host cues demonstrated an increase in activity within inlets; exposure to a host shielded from TF resulted in a decrease in inlet activity over time, further evidenced by the changing spatial positioning of mosquitoes between inlet and outlet areas. This novel design for a flight chamber can simulate long-range exposure and measure airborne spatial repellent simultaneously, leading to an investigation of how dose-dependent effects impact mosquito behavior.

Schistosomiasis is treated clinically with praziquantel, but this drug has no impact on the development of new infections. Ozonides, synthetic derivatives of peroxide, mirroring the natural artemisinin, display remarkably promising activity against juvenile schistosomes. The ED50 values for adult Schistosoma mansoni were 35 mg/kg and 24 mg/kg; for juvenile Schistosoma mansoni, they were 29 mg/kg and 24 mg/kg, respectively. Further optimization and development of ozonide carboxylic acids are promising due to their effectiveness against both life stages of parasites and their broad-spectrum activity against all relevant parasite species.
